About the Author
Franco Galli joined San Francisco-based II Fornaio America in 1987 where he oversees recipe development and menu-creation, in essence defining the culinary identity of the organization's renowned bakeries, restaurants, and cafes. A native of the small town of Carpendolo in northern Italy, he has worked in professional kitchens since the age of ten.

Visit one of the best Italian kitchens without leaving yours

For anyone that has had the opportunity to visit one of their restaurants, now you can enjoy their baked goods at home. All of their receipes are fairly easy to follow and follow you must! These dishes are a lot like a science project. mix the wrong item or quantity and it is all over. Follow closely and you will be rewarded with some of the finest breads and desserts around. The Tiramisu receipe is one of the best around. I have served it several times and it is a party favorite. I have tried countless other receipes and found this one the best their is. The soups can make a complete meal in themselves. Buy this book and you won't regret it.

Great Bread

The recipes in this book are described so well that even a novice baker will turn out world class loaves of bread. All through my college years I worked in a Pizza restaurant. I made pizza dough by following the directions on the 25lb bag of pizza flour. That had been my only baking experinece, but after deciding to attempt baking bread at home, I bought this book. My first loaf turned out better than anything I could buy at a supermarket.

With my husband having been in the bakery trade and having a GREAT appreciation for the art of bread baking, we found this book the easiest of all! It will help me master the Nancy Silverton LaBrea Bread baking book, which I also treasure. Like anything done well it takes practice... and the aromas are worth the work. Thank goodness for my KitchenAid mixer!

About the Author
Anthony Hervey was born in Water Valley, Mississippi. He grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. Anthony Hervey served in the military for a short period after which he attended the University of Mississippi, he studied sociology and Afro Studies and then travelled to London, England where he studied M.Sc. Race & Ethnicity at the University of London. He was intern in Parliament in London and was often seen in London's famous Hyde Park and Speakers Corner debating on Economic, Political and Social issues, which drew large crowds.

Mr. Hervey campaigned against the removal of the confederate Symbol in the Mississippi State Flag. He appeared in CNN Talkback Live, BET and Radio Talk Shows. Anthony Hervey is often seen on the square in Oxford, Mississippi under the Confederate Soldiers Monument, waving his Confederate Flag and protesting against poverty in the State of Mississippi.

History books tell you the civil war was fought to free the slaves. the TRUTH is the South poured 80% of the money the U.S. treasury had. So when the South seceded, they invaded the South to get their 'CASH COW' back, The north did not care about the Slaves at all. It was the MONEY !! A Fantasy Classic!

This book includes the first three of the old six book Elric series that Moorcock put out. I was seriously into Moorcocks Elric stuff as a teenager and now after rereading it after all these years I still consider this to be a classic in the fantasy genre. Elric is far from being a typical or cliched fantasy hero, in fact I would label him as an anti-hero. Instead of being a strong chivalric hero Elric is a foppish weakling albino who is kept alive only through the use of drugs and sorcery. He sits on the throne of a declining empire that takes pride in being cruel and unjust to the rest of the world. He comes into possession of a sword that is more or less a demon physically manifested into the form of a black bladed two handed sword. The sword, named Stormbringer, feeds on the souls of those that Elric kills giving Elric their lifeforce and energy. He becomes dependent on Stormbringer like a heroin addict to heroin, needing it and the souls of those that he kills just to function. So yeah like I said not exactly Sir Galahad here.

A very dark tale without being overly contrived. I'm surprised more of the black trenchcoat wearing goth/black metal/Marilyn Manson crowd of the younger generation hasn't caught on to the Elric stuff. I really enjoy Moorcocks Mulitiverse/Champion Eternal concept and would put those original Elric stories at the top of the Fantasy heap, second only to Robert E Howard and Tolkiens work.

Sword and Sorcery with Art and Intelligence

Moorcock is an excellent writer. His most obvious talent, to me, is his ability to drive both his story and his character's development via the same dark and despairing prose. Even when he writes the brightest, most gorgeous days, in the Elric saga, they are undercut by a real feeling of weight, depression, despair, and fatalism. This contrast can be shocking, especially if you have not previously read anything else by Moorcock.

Moorcock's ability to build a character, and his methods, fall somwhere between Tolkien's action based and Gene Wolfe's sometimes explanatory styles. His prose is as dark as that of Mervyn Peake, though Moorcock is less poetic, and is much more focused on action. This collection of the first three books of the Elric portion of his even larger "Eternal Champion" multiverse, holds, in my opinion, some of the best fantasy available on the market. The story is less predictable an more engaging, more 'different' than I have been accustomed too by years of McCaffrey, Terry Brooks, Salvatore, etc. dominating the fantasy fields. Moorcock brings back the strangeness that, almost twenty years ago, enticed me into the genre of fantasy, via Tolkien's books.

I do not wish to equate Moorcock to Tolkien. Moorcock is a very, VERY different writer, with a style that is very, VERY much his own. It is a good, strong style. It is even a, dare I say it, UNIQUE style, in a literary genre that is consistently derided for the lack of new works with original writing styles. I highly recommend the purchase of both this collection and its sequel collection, 'The Elric Saga, Part II'. They offer an engaging and enjoyable reading experience.

Incredibly Comprehensive

Just the introduction alone nearly made my head explode (I haven't wrestled much with Hegel and Schopenhauer since college. Krasner's intro alone is like a master class on theater.) The book itself serves as a valuable resource. I am pretty well versed in the medium, but this book introduced me to many important artists I had never even heard of. This book makes a great addition to any serious library, and is a must read for anyone with an interest in the subject.

As far as theoretical anthologies go, this one isn't that great. Yes, they have a bunch of different theorists in there, but the introductions, and the relevance, to each genre is definitely lacking. I had to buy this book for a class and usually, I keep all of my text books, but couldn't wait to get rid of this one. There are much better anthologies out there. Always try for Norton before buying anything else!

Quality of design

N. Edward Walker, The Design Analysis Handbook. A Practical Guide to Design Validation. Newnes, 1998 A Review This is a very daring and matter-of-fact book. It deals with a very important issue: how to handle the uncertainty involved in the design of electronic circuits. This uncertainty has several sources: 1. The equations one uses in design are based on assumptions that simplify the real life situation; 2. The actual values of the electronic components differ from their nominal values; 3. The human error in handling the complex equations can seldom be avoided. The effects of these uncertainties often become visible in the late stages of product development, when correction measures are costly, if not ineffective, so that the final product does not meet the quality requirements. Ed. Walker's approach is consistent with the principles of concurrent engineering. He advocates the cooperation within a team of design and quality engineers, in order to get the product right the first time, by avoiding the bugs in the R&D and design phases. The first chapter examines the state-of-the-art of the design and Q&R engineering practices, pointing to the extending gulf between the two disciplines. The importance of robust design validation is emphasized and the disadvantages of the present tools and methods are mentioned. These will be examined in detail with some excitingly polemic overtones in chapter 5, under the heading "bad science". In the second chapter, a new kind of worst-case analysis is introduced, more efficient than the classical Monte Carlo simulation approach. The outcome of this analysis is a procedure for risk assessment and a methodology for design correction and optimization. Next, in the third chapter, several design validation topics are considered and computer-aided solutions are presented, notably the software tool Design Master that accompanies the book. I used this software in a teaching environment and I was impressed by its high quality. The author practices what he preaches, so that the software product he delivers has all the "abilities" involved by the "total" quality concept: usability, reliability, supportability, portability and so on. However, quality validation of software products is a topic not examined in-depth. The safety analysis presented in chapter 4 introduces in simple and straightforward manner methods like FMEA and FTA, which are extensively dealt with elsewhere, but within an excessively sophisticated framework. The last chapter offers useful and interesting tips for electronic circuit quality analysis. The "difficult" subjects, such as Power and Thermal analysis, Grounding and Layout and EMI / Noise control, usually avoided in textbooks, are duly examined in detail. The case studies concerning Rectifier Circuits, Power Supplies, Digital circuits are completely worked-out, so that everyone can use them as an available guide. The appendices provide templates for analysis reports, a framework for the application of the original methods proposed in the book and a whimsical overview of engineering projects. Th book is a no-nonsense, straightforward approach to difficult and sophisticated quality issues that can arise in an engineering environment. It provides useful guidelines, powerful tools and effective methods for total quality improvement and assurance.

An outstanding alternative to monte carlo simulation

The first four or five chapters of this book explain in detail the statistical analysis technique WCA+. The text is easy to read and requires only a limited probability and statistics background to understand how to apply the technique. The remaining chapters give concrete examples from the electrical engineering field. As a mechanical engineer I found the first few chapters very helpful and I have applied the technique successfully many times. Statistical design engineering is a must today and the WCA+ method is an excellent alternative monte carlo simulation. If you are concerned with the response of your system at the extreme values of the inputs then, this book is a must because monte carlo simulation just doesn't suffice.

The Design Analysis Handbook combines the best aspects of Design Validation methods, Worst Case Analysis and lessons learned I've seen in one text. Ed sucessfully captured and explained information and techniques that many companies fail to pass-on to new Engineers. This text should be a must read for new engineers.
